Kent spin bowler James Tredwell will captain England in Thursday night's Twenty20 international against New Zealand at the Oval.

The 31-year-old, who took over the Kent captaincy at the start of the season, steps in with Eoin Morgan injured.

10-14 July: 1st Test, Trent Bridge

18-22 July: 2nd Test, Lord's

1-5 August: 3rd Test, Old Trafford

9-13 August: 4th Test, Durham

21-25 August: 5th Test, The Oval

Kevin Pietersen, 33, is expected to replace Morgan as a batsman on his return to the England set-up.

It will be his first international game since a knee injury forced him out of the tour of New Zealand in March.

Pietersen returned from injury in a County Championship match for Surrey at the weekend, scoring 177 not out in the drawn game against Yorkshire.

But despite Morgan, himself a stand-in for rested captain Stuart Broad, being out with a hand injury, England have decided Pietersen will not captain the side as they try to avenge Tuesday's defeat by New Zealand, when they fell five runs short of the Kiwis' imposing 201-4.

After the Twenty20 game, Pietersen will join up with the England squad for their Ashes warm-up match against Essex, which starts on Sunday.

The Test series against Australia starts at Trent Bridge on 10 July.
