Last weekend, we noted that the nephew of West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen had verbally committed to Memphis.
Likewise, a 2014 quarterback recruit with a familiar last name has made his college choice as well, though all things considered, this is a tad bit bigger.
Keller Chryst, a four-star signal caller (Rivals.com) in the class of 2014, gave his verbal commitment to Stanford earlier this week, his mother confirmed to multiple media outlets on Friday. Chryst was also highly interested in Alabama, Pitt and USC. At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Chryst is rated as the second-best pro-style quarterback and 31st overall player in the country. Should those current rankings remain the same, Chryst would be the highest-ranked quarterback the Cardinal have signed since Trent Edwards, according to Rivals.
His father, Geep Chryst, is the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers, and Pitt coach Paul Chryst is Keller’s uncle. Suffice to say the kid has some decent bloodlines.
Whether that translates into a successful college career remains to be seen, but there’s a lot of excitement around Chryst and his verbal, should it turn into a signature in February, 2014, is a good get for the Cardinal.
